How citizens use direct democracy here

Why this exists
Representative bodies make many decisions. Swiss-style semi-direct democracy adds a second channel: citizens can propose change (initiative), challenge a published law (optional referendum), or be called to vote when rules require it (mandatory referendum). This site digitises those instruments so participation can be continuous, transparent, and verifiable — not only on rare paper voting days.
What you can do
- Choose your jurisdiction in the header (e.g. DEMO for quick demos, Switzerland for classic federal thresholds).
- Register or log in, then claim eligibility on Account (birth year self-attestation in the demo).
- Browse processes — read proposal text, justification, official recommendations, and the discussion thread.
- Sign while a process is collecting signatures. You get a cryptographic receipt; progress updates live.
- Debate in the deliberation section so minorities and majorities can be heard before the vote.
- Vote when the election opens (Yes / No / Abstain). Your ballot is encrypted; you receive a receipt. You may re-vote until the deadline (coercion mitigation).
- Verify — check the public bulletin board and published tally proof after results close.
How a typical journey looks
Starting an initiative (as a citizen)
Go to New initiative. You need a committee of the size required by the jurisdiction ruleset (DEMO: 2 members; Swiss federal style: typically 7). Draft precise proposal text and a justification, then launch signature collection. When the threshold is reached, the process is submitted for official handling and a popular vote.

Important honesty
Legal binding force depends on real-world adoption by your jurisdiction. Perfect global digital identity and pure remote voting have residual risks (coercion, device malware, Sybil attacks).
